Q: How many breweries are there in Nelson County?
A: Nelson County has two micro-breweries. Both are located off of Rt. 151. See today’s blog story about the Blue Mountain Brewery in Afton, VA.

Blue Mountain Brewery

Nelson County has long been known for its wineries. Now, Nelson County is becoming known for its micro-brew. Within the last two years, two micro-breweries have opened in Nelson County. (Blue Mountain Brewery and Devil’s Backbone Brewery) The first to open is Blue Mountain Brewery in Afton, VA.

When you first arrive at the Blue Mountain Brewery, on Rt. 151, you notice that they are growing their own hops in the crisp mountain air. Then, you notice the outdoor seating with a view of Afton. You know that you have arrived at a place to spend an afternoon.

The brewery and its brew have become so popular, in just two years, that over 100 restaurants and stores now carry their brand. What’s on tap this Summer? Here is a list:
Blue Mountain Lager
Kolsch 151
Rockfish Wheat
Full Nelson
Mandolin
Nitro Imperial Porter

The Blue Mountain Brewery is growing their capacity; so, expect to see their brand in more locations in the near future. Or stop by the brewery and pick up some beer to go.

Plus, Blue Mountain Brewery serves food…and their popular pizza is back on the full-time menu.

Check out their web site at www.BlueMountainBrewery.com for all the details.

I hope to see you in beautiful Nelson County this Summer…
