Enjoy a Beer Tour in Nelson County

For years, Nelson County has been a popular Virginia Wine Tour county. With ten local, county wineries, Nelson has become a popular “wine destination vacation”. (Virginia has over 100 wineries and October is the official Virginia Wine Month) In the past two years, Nelson County has added two micro-breweries to the tour.

In 2009, the Central VA Beer Trail was launched. The micro-breweries participating in the tour include:

Charlottesville’s South Street Brewery: In downtown Charlottesville, this brewery has been open for a decade. For $6 you get seven tastes

Starr Hill Brewery in Crozet: About 12 miles west of Charlottesville, there is a free brewery tour with free samples

Blue Mountain Brewery: Located in Afton, this brewery has a $5 tasting for six beers

Devil’s Backbone Brewery: Located in Beech Grove, near Wintergreen Resort. You can taste eight beers for $6.

If you want to learn about early American beer, plan a visit to Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s home. Thomas Jefferson made and often served beer and cider. He would be proud of Central Virginia’s wine and beer trail.

I hope to see you in beautiful Nelson County soon…
