Ski Lessons for Kids
I have received many questions and emails about Wintergreen’s Kid’s “Learn to Ski Program”. I learned to ski at Wintergreen, as a kid. I highly recommend Wintergreen’s programs. There are Day Programs, Half Day Programs and even private lessons.
Here’s just a sample of this year’s programs:
o Ridgely’s Rippers for ages 4-12 beginner to advanced beginner ski lessons only
o Mountain Explorers for ages 7-14 for intermediate and advanced skiers or snowboarders
o Mountain Explorers Pro a multi-day program for ages 6-14
o Snow Play for ages 3+ includes childcare and one hour lesson on the snow, just enough time to work up rosy cheeks.
o Childcare – Our Kids In Action program offers full and half day indoor activity for children ages 2½-12
o Mountain Mornings for ages 3-6 A five week program for pre-schoolers with 2 hours of lesson time.
o Mom or Dad and Me Ski/Snowboard Private Lessons – A lesson for your child where you can get tips for them to continue learning after the lesson.

Did you know that The Plunge is Virginia’s largest snow tubing park? It is located in the Discovery Ridge area in Wintergreen’s Mountain Village.

Busy Holiday Week:

It will be busy in Nelson County and Wintergreen Resort this holiday week. Arrive early and plan ahead. You can book your tubing and Ridgely's Fun Park tickets, in Wintergreen, on-line. I suggest that you book as many reservations on line as possible, and make your restaurant reservations well in advance.
Parking in Wintergreen: Plan to arrive early and follow the directions of the Wintergreen employees. They will guide you to the next available parking lot. You may need to park in outer parking lots and ride the Wintergreen Shuttle to the ski area. Don't worry, Wintergreen has many shuttles running and your wait will not be long.
Book any WinterGarden Spa visits well in advance. Reservations are required.
Don't forget that Nelson County has many restaurants that are open during the busy holiday week. For a full list of area restaurants, visit my blog and click on the Restaurant link on the right navigation bar. There are several restaurants within a quick drive of Wintergreen Resort, including micro-breweries and wineries that serve food.

Ski & Ride Report: Today we have 23 slopes and trails open and 4 lifts. We will be open for DAY AND NIGHT SESSIONS skiing and riding from 9AM-9PM. The average snow base depth throughout the resort is 24”-36”. REGULAR SEASON RATES ARE IN EFFECT.
Tubing: The Plunge Tubing Park will be open today from 2pm – 9pm. Buy tickets on the web ahead of time if you want to take advantage of this great winter activity.
Terrain Park: The Progression Park is open with: 20 ft box, 10 ft box, 20 ft rail, 20 ft fun box, small and large propane tank rails, 2 small jumps, medium jump, 2 progression tables and a battleship rail. Keep checking this report for updates.
New Year’s Eve in the Mountains
Q: What’s going on in Wintergreen for New Year’s Eve?
A: Lots of activities in the resort. See below for a sample of the resort fun:
Copper Mine Bistro: Enjoy their a la carte menu, then dance to the tunes of Joe Pettus and the Soul Shakers from 9PM-Midnight. Call 434-325-8090 for reservations and details
Devil’s Grill: The regular dinner menu plus holiday specials. The Jack Winn-tet 4 piece band will play music from the 30’s, 40’s, light rock and Latin. Call 434-325-8100 for a reservation and details
The Edge: Dine on the casual menu and then dance from 9:30PM-Midnight. No reservations needed
Commonwealth Ballroom: Italian buffet in the Commonwealth Ballroom from 6:30-Midnight. Cost is $38 per person (Children 11 and younger will be $19 per person). Dinner ends at 8PM and the Sunday Puzzle will take stage. Reservations required for dinner. Call 434-325-8143 for reservations and details.
Kids at the Treehouse: There are several parties for kids on New Years. Call 434-325-8179 for all the details.

Holiday Week Q&A
Wintergreen and Nelson County expects a busy holiday week. Guests and visitors are already arriving in Nelson County. Be prepared for the busy week by reading my daily blog and by keeping an eye on the weather at www.NelsonCountyLife.com. Here are some answers to questions that I have received this week:
Q: Are there any lodging rentals open for New Year’s Eve in Wintergreen?
A: All of my client’s private rentals are booked for the holiday weekend. The last time I checked, Wintergreen did have some resort rentals available. You can book those rentals at www.WintergreenResort.com
Q: Where do we park to go skiing?
A: During the busy holiday week, arrive EARLY in the Mountain Village area. Arrive early, park in the lots below the Mountain Inn, and then go and purchase your gear rentals and/or lift tickets. Look for Wintergreen employees to point the direction to the next available parking lot. If the lots in front of the Mountain Inn are full, Wintergreen employees will direct you to other parking lots with shuttle service to the ski areas.
Q: Where can we get breakfast while waiting for the slopes to open?
A: In Wintergreen, stop by the Coppermine Bistro for a hot breakfast. They also have a breakfast buffet on the weekends. For muffins or breakfast snacks with coffee, stop by the General Store in the Mountain Inn at Wintergreen. As you are heading up to the resort, you can stop at the Java Depot in Beech Grove, open 7 days a week for breakfast.
Q: Will Wintergreen have some parties for New Year’s Eve?
A: Yes, the resort will host several parties for New Year’s Eve. I urge you to book a reservation now for those parties. Check out tomorrow’s blog for updates on New Year’s Activities.
Q: Where can I watch ESPN over the holiday week?
A: Many of the rental properties have ESPN. If you would like to visit a bar or restaurant, check out The Edge in the Wintergreen Mountain Village, Devil’s Backbone or Java Depot in Beech Grove.
